SUMMARY:Circle of Hope for Cancer Research 3rd Annual Golf Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Circle of Hope\,for Cancer Research is a 501(c)3 non-profit formed 4 years ago by two local cancer survivors. Our mission is to raise funds for cancer research. 100% of all funds raised go directly to cancer research\, Each year invitations to submit applications are sent to all Florida Medical Colleges to be distributed to researchers\, After receipt of completed application packages and review by both a scientist and patient advocate the two most promisimg projects are awarded a $10\,000 grant each. To date we have awarded $40\,000 in grants to researchers at UCF\, USF\, UF. The projects are: brain cancer (glioblastoma) which affects children as well as adults\, al cell lung cancer which is very aggressive\, has a 5% 5 year survival rtate\, Our UCF recipient is working on a project to utilize the body's immune system to kill the cancer cells. Each of the projects we have awarded funding to show promise and could someday be the piece of the puzzle needed to successfully defeat a cancer. Our golf tournament is our major fund raiser providing the largest part of our ability to continue and hopefully each year grow the amount of monies we are able to provide.
